Staying In Charge of Your Dog

Your Dog May Challenge You

Staying in chrage of your dog is a tough job. You know that your dog should not be in charge of the household, you should. So why then do so many pet owners (dogs particularly) allow there pet to take charge of everything? It is really baffling and thus, this article will help show you how to stay on top of the supremacy ladder in your house. Whether or not your dog obeys you is one thing, but it should start to obey you if you begin to take charge of the situation. Correct procedures and handling is the only way to solve the problem.

Time and time again you see it, dogs that have their own way. A dog that wants the bed will stay on the bed and upon being told to get off, will get back up on the bed anyways. It is a common occurrence and it happens all day long, all over the world. What is the pattern here and why do these dogs disobey their owners? Perhaps it is because they are not afraid of the punishment but more so, the dog does not see the owner as being capable. This means that the dog thinks that you are lame as an owner!

Now don’t take this so harsh, it isn’t your fault. It is something in the way you trained the dog. We need to either reverse that message you sent to pooch or to start over with a new technique. The beauty of dog training is that you can keep doing it until you get it right. You don’t have to suffer for eternity just because you trained the dog improperly. So what is one to do? You need to become a leader. Start being the group pack leader you were meant to be. Just because our dogs have become civilized into the human world does not mean they lost their wild instincts. The animal still has wild instincts but those have just become wetted down from being humanized, if you will.

The dog is looking for someone around it that will lead it to where it needs to be. It wants to take orders from something that looks like it knows what it is doing. Are you that person? You need to become the alpha dog of the pack and show that you mean business. The alpha dog always is in charge and it shows because it is allowed to wash first, eat first, and do what it wants first. The rest of the pack will follow. Now this may seem like an ego trip to us but this is the way nature works. It is also the way families have worked for centuries in some parts of the world.

Your dog may challenge you from time to time even if you do show that you are the alpha dog of the house, which you should be by the way. This is normal behavior if it occurs from time to time. However this should not happen on a regular basis. With this, begin to make your dog obey you in training. When you give a command, follow through with that order and make sure it is carried out. Otherwise, you will never reach the alpha dog level. -- Dog Walking
