What Your Dog Needs
Quality Dog Equipment
Do you know what your dog needs? There is no one tool that will make your dog training experience easier. However, if you have a few things, the process will be a little less stressful. You still have to utilize the fundamentals of training though. Nothing can beat the basics really. Stick to what is proven to work and it will work well for you. All tools do is make things happen a little quicker or easier, but the idea is still the same. Right then, what kind of things might you want to look into getting when self training your pet pooch?
Tough Doggy Needs?
Put an end to your dog's
bad behavior for good.
Some equipment you might want to get includes collars, leashes, discs, citronella spray (if you really need it), and other minor things. A whistle might be good too. You could train your dog to listen to a dog whistle (or normal whistle) and come back on command of hearing the whistle. This works great if you have a large park area near your house. Take careful precaution to always inspect the equipment you purchase before you decide to buy it. The last thing you want to happen is to get home and find out that your collar or leash is torn or ripped and doesn’t work according to plan.
The saying “you get what you pay for” is very true when it comes to high quality dog equipment. I would not be cheap and get the lowest grade material of dog leash. You know what is going to happen don’t you? That leash is going to rip or snap if you have a large dog and then you will be chasing your dog down the street. That would not look very good on your part but would look extremely funny to someone else. Embarrassing to say the least, save yourself a bit of trouble and spend an extra ten dollars.
Also, don’t forget a good bunch of treat toys as I like to call them. Given to your dog upon a successful command or better yet, after a training session, the toy will give your dog joy for a few hours and he or she will know it performed well. Remember, praise and reward are part of the positive reinforcement training techniques and they work very well when it comes to instilling behavior in a dog.
You don’t really need anything else for training purposes although you will need some form of other equipment later down the line. Things like a grooming brush (depending on the coat your dog has) and litter bags are other minor items you don’t need to purchase for the purpose of training your dog. In fact, you could even use a plastic bag for picking up dog feces. There is no need to purchase a special bag (unless you really want to). So take your time and look for items that will help lessen the load of training your dog to behave properly.
