Praise Dog Behavior
Pooch Soils Inside The House
It is not in your best interest scold the dog for everything it does wrong. You do want to correct it but in a nice way. Praise is one of the most beneficial ways of letting your dog know that you are happy with what it has done, no pun intended. Never hit your pet under any circumstances. This isn’t just true for cruelty’s sake; it also hurts the training process. So when you take your dog outside and it does its business, give it a pat on the head and praise it for doing so.
Dog Acting Up?
Put an end to your dog's
bad behavior for good.
You must keep up the routine and behavior on your part of patting the dog on the head and praising it whenever it uses the bathroom where you want it to. Dogs like an ego trip so this shouldn’t be too hard to accomplish. A nice simple pat and a “Good Boy” or “Good Girl” will do the trick just fine. It should also be noted that you talk in a normal mannered voice. There is no need to go into the cute voices we most often tend to do. No low pitched voices and no high pitched voices. Don’t do a dance and don’t clap your hands. Just a pat on the head and a simple word of praise is perfect and is all that is necessary.
Now what about when good old pooch soils inside the house? The first thing you want to do is show the animal that you are unhappy with this behavior. How do you do that? One of the best ways to accomplish this is by leading your pet to the scene of the crime, and showing it to them. Say “SHAME” and point to the mess, get the message across that you are unhappy with your dog when it does this. Eventually, your dog will not want you to be unhappy and will wait to use the bathroom outside. This may take time but is well worth the training. Also, take the dog outside after they defecate inside. Many people say this is pointless however you can never go wrong in showing the dog just once more, where the proper place to use the bathroom is.
Remember, never hit the animal and always be patient with it. It is a lot better if you can catch the dog during the act, as this will instill a greater correlation between what he did and what you don’t like. If you catch the act a couple of hours later, well, you can still try to get the point across but never become upset. Simply lead the dog over to the mess and let it know you are unhappy with the situation. It shouldn’t be too hard. Go on; give it a try the next time it happens. The dog will know the mess is theirs simply because they can pick up on the scent. We can pick up on the scent too, but not in the way the dog can. -- Proper Training Methods
