Making Your Dog Listen

Formulate Your Own Dog Plan

Making your dog listen is no easy task. No matter where you are or what you do, having a well trained dog is one of the most essential ingredients to a proper relationship with your animal. Most will agree with this statement and so, how do you achieve a well trained dog? It takes time, patience, dedication, and perseverance. I would also like to say that it is important to set yourself goals that you wish to accomplish. If you have nothing to set your sights on, you are going to be running around blind and not really getting anywhere. You might train your pet pooch to do a few things, but the overall goal needs to be clearly outlined.

Put an end to your dog's
bad behavior for good.

Set yourself a plan right now, in fact go and do this right now and then come back and read the rest of this article. Ok great, did you write up a few things you wish to accomplish? Keep those in mind as you read the rest of this. If you just want a dog that is a good pet overall, that is fine, but you want to work on some minor details. If the astronauts had a plan of “Well, we just want to get somewhere up in space, not exactly sure where though…” they probably wouldn’t’ be very successful with their mission. Would you agree?

What is it that your dog does that bothers you or that needs changing? Does your dog jump up on everyone it sees? Maybe all your pet needs is a lesson in sitting and jumping. Once those two are fixed, it could be the best dog in your city. Do you see what I am getting at here? Focus on the initial problem and then worry about other things later on in your training. You don’t’ want to try and make the dog stop barking if it really needs help in the anxiety department. Do you follow? Allow the dog to let you know what is wrong with it and then all you have to do is take the proper course of action. It really is as easy as that.

When you set yourself clear goals marked by week, day, month, etc…, you will attain those goals much quicker than if you were to go in blind. Once you have your main goal in mind, take that goal and work backwards, day by day, breaking it down into steps and the number of lessons per week. It will make things a lot clearer for you and will also make it look a lot easier.

Once you have your lessons broken down into days and weeks, then break each lesson apart into what you want to accomplish. If you want your dog to stop jumping, spend a few minutes on focus and a few minutes on heeling and sitting etc… You are now starting to get the picture. So go on, and take some time and formulate your own dog plan. You will be amazed at the results you can achieve on your own. -- Outdoor Pen Exercise
