Put an end to your dog's
bad behavior for good.
How do you begin to train the dog for its aggressive attitude? The first thing you want to do is try and figure out the root of the problem. You cannot solve a problem you do not know the question to. So with that said, why does your dog become aggressive? Look and watch your pet to see when it becomes aggressive. Try to notice if there is a pattern to its behavior. If there is, it will be a lot easier on you when it comes time to fix the problem.
If you are the owner of an aggressive pooch always remember to keep this one thing in mind. A dog is always looking for a leader of the pack. By nature, these animals were group hunters and the entire pack lives off of the signals of the group leader. Are you strong enough to be that leader for your pet? Just because the animal has been living in your house, does not mean it's mentality for a pack leader is not there.
Each dog's temperament is going to vary slightly and this is to be expected. With focus and patience, training the animal to channel its behavior into an acceptable form is something that will take time but is well worth the effort. Assuming that you only own one dog, this makes your job a little bit easier. From the standpoint of owning multiple dogs, aggression can be really complicated to deal with.
When your pet does not think that you are a capable leader of its pack, it is going to throw you aside. How do you know if your pooch has thrown your leadership aside and started a mutiny? The signs are very telling and you should be aware of them. If your dog has little regard for your commands or corrections, it may think you to be a weakling. It also may think that it is indeed, the alpha dog of the house. The pooch will eat first, nap on the couch even when told not to, and have the run of the house. Individual occurrences will differ a little bit, but overall, the signs are similar.
Correcting the problem is going to take time and patience. Whether you are using the praise technique or strict correction during the disobedient act, your dog will not learn overnight. Give the animal time to adjust to your commands. Work to understand the dog more and in turn, it will understand you more. -- Dog Possession Aggression
